Reinstall Question

Hello all. Love Topaz Gigapixel!

Question. I seem to need to re-install (after a botched OS upgrade attempt). I’m getting an unregistered DLL error. But the ‘download trial’ buttons are disabled. How would I go about re-installing?

GigaPixel DLL errors (OpenCL, hddlapi, KERNEL32)

@DarrenH wrote:

Hello, a few days ago I suddenly started getting DLL errors when using GigaPixel.

They happen when an image is updating in the right-hand panel, when it’s loaded and when I make and adjustment.

Here are the messages:

“The procedure entry point clCreateCommandQueueWithProperties could not be located in OpenCL.dll”

“The program can’t start because hddlapi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling”

“The procedure entry point GetThreadDescription could not be located in KERNEL32.dll”

I don’t know if this is related, but recently attempted to upgrade from Win7 to Win10, but failed repeatedly, so I’m sticking with Win7 for now.

I just uninstalled GigaPixel, restarted and reinstalled but still getting the same messages. Has anyone experienced these errors?

Thanks for your time D

Issue with purchasing the AI Bundle

@AmazingMumford wrote:

Was looking into buying the AI Bundle, but the price remains $299 when I add it to my cart even though I own Denoise, Sharpen, and Adjust. I verified that I was logged in as myself, and that Topaz had my owned AI products on file. My understanding is that it is supposed to pro-rate the price based on already-owned products.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gigapixel AI 4.4.0 sometimes produces horizontal bands

@svetlina_design wrote:

Gigapixel AI 4.4.0 seems to produce horizontal banding artifacts in areas with relatively uniform color and low frequency detail when using CPU, Max AI models and “Keep Color Profile” set to “Yes”. When I keep all these settings and only change “Keep Color Profile” to “No” and chose sRGB, Gigapixel AI doesn’t produce the banding artifacts.

Please see the example attached below (contrast boosted for clarity).

Gigapixel 4.4.0 CPU vs GPU Different Results

@weasel-126738 wrote:

I found that using the GPU is three times as fast, but doesn’t produce the same level of detail and the colors of poppies in my photo are different to a degree that is easily noticeable when the CPU and GPU versions are stacked in photoshop. TIFF file showing the differences is here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ykdc1ah72vs6v9l/_DSC4007_output_CPU_vs_GPU.tif?

My question: is this a bug or expected behavior? While the GPU enlargement is faster, the CPU enlargement is noticeably better such that the GPU version is of no use to me. I have GTX970 with driver from 2017 that is microsoft hardware compatible.

Sharpen AI, artifacts when using gpu acceleration

@r.j wrote:

I seem to be getting artifacts when using gpu acceleration, these do not appear when using only the cpu for processing. The artifacts also appear in the preview view.

An example:
original file: https://flic.kr/p/2gQEYLV
using cpu: https://flic.kr/p/2gQEaAw
using gpu: https://flic.kr/p/2gQEXf8

This happened with the previous version I used and the current version.

There’s vertical artifacts on the higher contrast areas, this happens on all the images I’ve tried. I’ve tested this on 3 different Windows 10 desktops and a laptop, all show the artifacts when using gpu acceleration (with nvidia gtx 770, gtx 1060, amd 6770 and laptop nvs 4200m). There appears to be no such artifacts when using any of the computers when using only the cpu to process images.

I posted a ticket to request support on this issue over a manth ago, they acknowledged that they could reproduce the issue and would be passed on to the developement team to look at, heard nothing back since and it is still and issue with the current build.

As it stands the gpu accelerated feature is only useful when there are very few high contrast edges which show these artifacts.

Gigapixel preview has more details than the output

@ubre wrote:

I recently (3-4 weeks ago) purchased Gigapixel and have used it for around 120 pictures.
I have encountered a problem where the preview very often has more details than the actual output which is strange because it should be the other way around or be the exact same.
In the example I will provide you can see the preview showing off single strands of hair that don’t appear in the original image (That’s great! It’s exactly what I needed!) but in the output you won’t be able to see any of those.

And here’s the result

These are my settings for the picture above:

But I can assure you that I tried every single option available and at one point having 64 different pictures with different sizes and settings, all of them are basically the same except for the speed at which they are made and maybe some minor details.
Not sure what else could be the problem, at this point I could just take screenshots of the preview and stitch them together to make a full picture.

Also let me get this straight: The result is amazing regardless of problems I’m having, but it does look like an old polaroid photo put through a scanner, the one in the preview looks more genuine.

Gigapixel something positive

I just enlarged a picture of my grandson (3 1/2 yrs) scaled by 4X which came from instagram. I used the GPU (Radeon RX580) with high memory but tried both the Max quality off and on. With it off I saw some artifacts around his face (red lines, etc) but with Max quality on, they were mostly gone. So at least in the case of portraits, Max Quality = yes seems to be the best choice. Face refinement was on in both cases.

Hi, I beleive that TS2 and RM5 are on the table to be able to use together but is there an approx time frame for this please? I also use On1 2019 Photo RAW that has a good masking option but from what I have scene on youtube and read about RM5 it is a much better product and Topaz honour there customers by giving free upgrades to software purchased when they are available where the likes of On1 and Skylum are charging for this. Many Thanks. Russ.

Batch processing

@Tok_Tok wrote:

Hello,

I just bought the AI bundle and I’m playing around with the different apps. I find the result overall very good and I would like to apply this to video’s I shoot for clients. The problem is that batch processing is limited. For example the DeNoise AI and Adjust AI app don’t allow for batch processing and Gigapixel AI can only use one graphics card at the same time. I currently have a system with 7 GPU’s so the speedup would be enormous if Gigapixel can utilize all of them.

For me, I really need batch processing to work with every Topaz app or else I can’t use them. I’m a little surprised that this is not possible yet. Are there plans to add this in the future?

Gigapixel AI 4.4.0 — can't choose Source Folder for output

@lindapgh-426256 wrote:

I’m not sure this is a bug or an unwanted feature change. There used to be an option to save the output back to the Source Folder, also shown in the v4.0 video on the Topaz site. But now there is no menu for choosing that, and I need to Browse to the Source Folder every time since the last output location is sticky. I use Lightroom and want to keep my source images where I put them and then bring in the Gigapixel product into the catalog. I’m on a Mac if that is relevant.35%20AM

Gigapixel AI - option to overwrite source file

$

@lindapgh-426256 wrote:

Since Gigapixel AI can’t be used as an external editor in Lightroom (the image doesn’t get passed), my desired workflow is this: Export the image as unresized .TIFF to “Same folder as original photo” and with “_GIGAPIXEL” appended to the filename. Use the option to Add to catalog. In the Post-processing panel of the Export dialog, choose Gigapixel AI. Gigapixel AI would then use this exported version for processing. If the output could be specified to overwrite the source file (with or without a warning dialog), I would then have the Gigapixel-processed image in my Lightroom catalog alongside the LR-processed image without the need to import or Synchronize Folder after Gigapixel AI processing. Currently, the output file is renamed as “…GIGAPIXEL (1).TIFF”

The same workflow would be desirable for Sharpen AI or any product that Lightroom can’t pass an image to. I suppose I can use Topaz Studio as an external editor and call Gigapixel AI or Sharpen AI from there, but often the enlargement or Sharpen AI is the only edit I need or want.

What kind of GPU is the key to speeding up Gigapixel AI?

@Odin wrote:

I found that topaz did not seem to address this issue: what criteria should be used to select graphics cards in order to improve GAI performance?
What are the key indicators to measure performance gains?
I submitted a help ticket: “https://help.topazlabs.com/hc/requests/191168”. But the answer doesn’t seem to be right, so I’m here to ask for help.
When I searched for the keyword “gpu” in the forum, I found that developers had mentioned OpenGL performance as an important measure. But this statement is rather vague. In fact, the performance of graphics card OpenGL depends on a number of indicators.
Here is a picture.

So…GPU Frequency/CUS numbers/Cores numbers/IOPS Performance/Single Precision and Double Precision Floating Point Performance? Or display memory bandwidth/frequency/capacity, etc?
What are the key parameters that affect the processing speed of GAI?
If we can clearly know the answer, then we can relatively easily choose the most cost-effective graphics card according to our own needs!

I use smart objects as part of my workflow. What I have found is that when I add an adjustment layer above, it goes back into Studio 2 as expected. However it does not hold on to the adjustments I had made the first time through. Am I missing a step or is this something that needs a feature request?

Thanks in advance!

Studio 2 not showing "accept" or "duplicate" among others

Long time Topaz user. I just started trying to work with Studio 2 (V. 2.0.12) and watched part of the 1st video with John Barclay.
I started working with a Canon RAW file just to experiment.
I find that my Studio 2 display is quite different than the one in the video.
The 1st thing: I do not have the “accept” or “duplicate” buttons anywhere.
Preferences give me no help. View gives me no help.
A number of the options seem to be missing.
I’ve included a screenshot.
What’s going on?
