I don't have PS, so I use photoFX a lot in my workflow. I think it's got a lot of potential. The following is my list of things I'd like to see in photoFX:
- Navigate, Loupe, Histogram
- When zoomed in and using a tool - say masking brush - it would be nice if you could right-click to pan. This would be much better than having to switch to pan mode and back repeatedly.
- Ability to copy a mask from one layer to another.
- Ability to copy an image to a mask on another or same layer.
- Add the latest mask tool as in TE etc.
- Add a magic wand style selection tool.
- Ability to save a mask as a file (TIFF?).
- Ability to combine masks with simple logical commands -OR, AND, NOT, XOR, etc. For example, you copy layer A's mask to layer X's mask, and then AND the mask from layer B onto layer X's mask.
- Ability to create a mask from curves based tool.
- Ability to apply effects like feathering and blurring after a mask is drawn.
I think these things would add a LOT of power to photoFX. Just having the ability to copy an image to a mask would make contrast masking possible.
The program Picture Window Pro, by Digital Light and Color, has some very nice masking capabilities and a very nice layer stacking and blending transform. I think it's a program Topaz should check out for photoFX ideas.
Best regards
