I've mentioned concerns about Topaz file sizes before, since then I have been examining the issue more closely. The above post was also a test file for this issue. These are my findings.
The jpg produced by Photoshop was 3.8Mb.
Uploaded then downloaded to PostImage (the app I use for linking to forums that require this process) the file size remained at 3.8Mb.
Uploaded then downloaded to Topaz the file size increased to 4.7Mb.
My first concern was that Topaz was adding extra code - worst scenario, spyware, perhaps. On examining the code I think now that Topaz is transcribing my files using a different 'flavour' of jpg code, a flavour that inflates file sizes by around a third.
The reason for transcribing is unclear, and if it is innocent then is not of concern. What is of concern to me is that file measurement uploaded to Topaz is obviously made after transcription making it difficult to accurately judge which files will tip the maximum size error.
As it stands, successful uploading to Topaz is a bit of a gamble. I hope that this can be rectified in a future version.
