I think many of us find that the traditional approach of using a product such as Photoshop to do the basics and then multiple layers to achieve adequate post processing a little cumbersome since the advent of Texture Effects.
Firstly I would like to start this request by saying I am more of a traditionalist when it comes to images and post-processing. I like the concept of a digital darkroom where I can work on individual portions of an image to enhance, burn, dodge, add effects etc., etc. As a Topaz concept you can that Texture Effects, with its effect layers, is trying to do this for a special type of type of result.
What I find with all filters developed in the market is that they address a specific type of enhancement or adjustment without taking into consideration that a image is made up of many different adjustments applied to the base image. For example if I am trying to do a black & white conversion my workflow may include some or all of the following steps:
- Adjust the basics such as brightness, clarity and shadows, highlights and white and black points,
- Desaturate the image and adjust the luminance of the different colors in the image such as sky, earth tones and greens,
- Apply a B&W conversion to, say the sky region,
- Apply another B&W conversion to the midtones and the earthy tones,
- Apply another B&W conversion to the say the forests, or the green tones; then, if necessary,
- Apply another B&W conversion to affect only the Aqua tones of say water in the foreground.
Of much of the workflow outlined above needs peripheral support such as for masking and blending, vingetting, etc.
So, what I envisage, is a Texture Effects like application with the following, or similar effect panels each with their own masking capabilities that can be copied between effects:
- Basic Tone Adjustments as found in DETAIL
- Basic Color Adjustments as found in DETAIL
- HSL Adjustments as found in CLARITY
- Detail Adjustments as found in DETAIL
- Global Adjustments such as found in ADJUST
- Clarity Adjustments as found in CLARITY
- Conversion Adjustments as found in B&W Effects
- and Finishing Touches as found in ADJUST and B&W Effects (combined)
The other considerations, I guess, are special effects such as Simplify, Clean, Lens Effects and InFocus etc.
So would love to see a TOPAZ Effects module where we can combine all or some or multiple effects as I listed above. Would save me having to apply many filters during a post processing exercise.
And the point of this request is that I don't mean another container to apply different Topaz filters but the effects from some of those filters.
