Over the last few months, PhotoFXLab (FX) has become an important piece of my workflow - but I feel there are a few features that would let me work better and faster. Perhaps some of them are already available and I've simply not discovered them and maybe I just need some help. But others might well be useful to others using this nice tool.
I tend to get pretty lazy about adding comments to distinguish one layer from another; usually when I remember to do this, I just write in the name of the effect I am using. Is there some trick available to make this happen automatically? If not, there should be.
Why does the name of the current file appear anywhere on the window frame? It might be on the opening layer, but not after you modify it. The file name really needs to be displayed for reference.
Quite often, I start up a plug-in and immediately remember that I failed to make a copy of the layer I'm editing. There are two issues here - opening the effect is time-consuming and I suspect much of that time is wasted - taken up applying a standard setting that I am not likely to use. I have a couple thoughts on this and one is that there should be an option in FX to skip this initial application in order to speed up initialization from within FX. Secondly, if that is not possible, then the analysis results should be saved and re-used when I cancel (in order to make a layer copy and restart the same effect on a copy of that image). But better yet, why not allow the user to push the current image on the layer stack; this would be useful both when the user, as I so often do, forgets to push a copy before starting the plug-in - but it would also be useful for pushing intermediate versions of the image onto the stack. As an example, I often use only the adaptive-exposure adjustments to an image and close Adjust to make a copy then start Adjust again to make adaptive saturation adjustments before closing Adjust a second time so that I can make opacity adjustments on these two different layers.
Some support for copy and paste would be very useful, particularly for masks, but layers as well.
FX seems not to keep track of whether there have been any changes since the last save. It would at least be useful to have an indicator for this so the user does not have to save a file once more just to be sure. Most software like this will disable the save button in this situation.
Related to 7, I've sometimes found that a save will only save the top of the stack, not a merged image. In connection with this, a button to merge all layers would be helpful or at least a quick way to select all layers.
This one applies to masks both in FX and in each of the plug-ins. With each mask there should be an opacity slider and also some way to blur the mask. Some way to generate graduated masks would be useful too.
